WebScreen — Privacy Policy

WebScreen is a browser extension that captures the pages you ask it to capture, lets you annotate them, and exports to PNG or PDF. Everything happens on your computer. No data ever leaves your browser.

What WebScreen does not do

No remote servers. The extension does not contact any server, API, or analytics endpoint.
No telemetry. The extension does not report usage, errors, or identifiers.
No tracking. The extension does not read your browsing history, bookmarks, cookies, passwords, autofill data, or clipboard contents.
No ads. The extension does not display, inject, or serve advertising.
No account. The extension does not require sign-up, login, or any personal information to function.

What data WebScreen handles locally

Captures — the pixels and link rectangles of the tab you explicitly activate the capture on. Produced by Chrome’s captureVisibleTab and stitched entirely on your computer.
Annotations — the shapes you draw in the editor. Held in memory while the editor tab is open.
Local capture counter — a single integer incremented every time you complete a capture, stored in chrome.storage.local. Shown on the options page next to the optional PayPal donation link so you can see how often you’ve used the extension. Never transmitted.

All of this data is kept in the extension’s local IndexedDB on your machine. The whole store can be cleared at any time from chrome://extensions → WebScreen → Remove.

Permissions explained

Permission	Why
`activeTab`	Read pixels of the tab you explicitly activate a capture on.
`scripting`	Inject the capture script into that tab on demand.
`storage`	Persist the local capture counter shown on the options page.

No host_permissions, no tabs, no downloads permission, no cookies. The extension cannot read the content of tabs you haven’t activated it on.

Donations

If you donate via the PayPal link on the options page, your donation is processed by PayPal under their own terms and privacy policy (paypal.com/privacy). WebScreen itself never receives, stores, or sees your payment information.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be published to this page and the “Effective date” at the top will be updated.
